Family-owned Gino’s East, celebrating 50 years of serving Chicago-style deep-dish pizza to fans from around the world, announces the grand opening of their newest location in Pilsen (1659 W. 21st St., Chicago, IL 60608), the heart of the Mexican community in Chicago, on Thursday April 14.
“We were excited to bring the best of Chicago to Mexico City, where Gino’s East’s deep dish pizza has been a huge hit since opening more than a year ago. Now we are equally excited to come back home with our special, homemade Pastor sauce and other recipes that fuse the flavor profiles of two distinct cultures,” states Jos Saldaña, General Director of Gino’s East in Mexico.
The expansion of Gino’s East in Mexico City has been a fundamental part in the development of Gino’s East’s new location in Pilsen and the recipes featured on the menu have been created from scratch by Chef Roberto Tostado and Gino’s East’s Executive Vice President Noah Himmel.
The dishes from the Gino’s East Mexico City menu that will travel 4,000 miles from the heart of D.F. to the historic neighborhood of Pilsen include deep dish or thin crust pizzas: Carnitas, caramelized onions, avocado, salsa picante, cilantro, tomato sauce, mozzarella; Nopal Vegetarian, cactus, picked onion, mushroom, potato, tomato sauce, mozzarella; and Meaty Chorizo Legend, chorizo, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, bacon, tomato sauce, mozzarella. Small plates include Jumbo Wings marinated with Homemade Pastor sauce or smoky dry rub; Pozole Verde Soup; Oaxacan Caprese Salad and more.
Beer, wine and cocktail offerings include select Gino’s Brewing Company craft beer, tequila, mezcal, and $8 cocktails including: Ron Amarillo, white rum, ancho chili liqueur, yellow bell pepper, cilantro, lime; Humo Blanco, mezcal, apricot, lemon, hellfire bitters, chipotle; Medicina Liquida, mezcal, tequila, aperol, honey, lemon, orange zest; Gingersnap, Vanilla or Cinnamon Horchata with white rum and more.
In addition to daily lunch specials, general daily specials include but are not limited to: Sweet Tooth Monday, half price desserts; Tuesday $1 Guacamole; and Wednesday Cheap Date Night, free small plate with purchase of two specialty cocktails.
