Gino’s East Brewery has a new seasonal beer on tap just in time for St. Patrick’s Day! This year Chicago will celebrate the holiday on March 14. Our Brewery, located at 500 N. LaSalle, is two blocks from the Chicago River, which is famously dyed green every year. We’ll be serving up this Irish-inspired brew through St. Patty’s, so get it while it’s still here.
A popular tourist destination in Ireland (more hotels than any other city in the country!), Killarney is home to famous landmarks including Ross Castle, Muckross House and Abbey and Killarney National Park. Known as a “walking town”, Killarney is a great place to explore on foot.
Since we won’t be traveling through Ireland this St. Patrick’s Day, the next best thing is our new seasonal. Killarney Connection, Our Foreign Extra Stout, is named after the town of Killarney. Brewmaster Kevin Patrick McMahon, who’s family’s lineage traces back to Killarney, chose to honor his Irish heritage with this full bodied stout.
Roasted Barley, Chocolate, and Black malts offer it’s obsidian color while also attributing a roasty espresso and dark chocolaty sweetness to the nose. With a creamy tan head, and balanced finish, this wonderfully drinkable stout will help you get your Irish on for St Patty’s day, and endure the last stretch of winter weeks ahead.
Foreign Extra Stout, Brewed In-house, 6.3%
Our taste buds are ready to try this bold beer! We’ll see all of you from now until St. Patrick’s Day!
To kick off the summer months the right way, Gino’s East is serving up some exclusively delicious beer. Through the month of July, we’re the only place in the city that will have Magnifica Wheat from 5 Rabbit Brewery. As a part of the Gringolandia series, the brewery says that Gringolandia is an affectionate term used by many Latinos to refer to the United States. And nothing says “America” like a wheat beer from one of our local Chicagoland brewers.
According to 5 Rabbit Brewery, Gringolandia Magnifica Wheat is a way to salute to craft beer and the melting pot that is Chicago. What better way to enjoy summer than with a crisp, refreshing beverage alongside a famous deep dish Chicago style pizza from Gino’s East? Best of all, we’re serving up this hard-to-find brew at three of our downtown locations including Gino’s East River North, Gino’s East Superior and Gino’s East South Loop. You’ll be able to enjoy an after-work spirit in the comfort of your favorite Gino’s East location, so don’t miss out on giving it a try!
As noted by the 5 Rabbit Brewing Company,
“Magnifica is a very modern wheat ale with a bright hoppy aroma and an ultra creamy texture. Pils, Vienna and red wheat malts are mixed with flaked wheat for a smooth creaminess. We balance that with a clean bitterness and a mix of Ahtanum and Chinook hops for a bright, noticeable hop aroma character.”
Malt: Pils, Vienna and Malted Red Wheat
Other Fermentables: Flaked Wheat
Hops: 45 IBU (Moderate); Ahtanum and Chinook 2 to 1
Other Seasonings: None
Yeast: House English Strain
OG: 1.053 (13.1°Plato)
Color: Hazy Pale Gold
Serving Recommendations: 38–42 °F/3–5.5 °C. Everything tastes great in a big tulip!
Served daily at our Gino’s East South Loop location. 5 Rabbits Cerviciera’s 5 Vulture Oaxacan Style Dark Ale brewed with ancho chile is a very complex and flavorful amber ale. A toasty, malty flavor with hints of mild spices give this dark ale notes of smoothness and crisp drinkability. Low in carbonation and lacking bitterness, this ale leaves a hint of spice in the aftertaste and is best served between 42 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit. The 5 Vulture pairs nicely with any of our dishes featuring full-body flavors like sausage, pepperoni, and other smoky meats. Try it paired with our Deep Dish Sausage Pizza. The salty spiciness of the sausage and the rich buttery flavor of our golden crust will bring out the sweet toasty flavor of the brew.
We source the 5 Vulture from one of our favorite local suppliers, the 5 Rabbit Cerviciera in Bedford Park, IL.
Here is what they have to say about the origins of the beer:
From the brewer:
“In Aztec mythology, 5 Vulture (Macuilcozcacuauhtli) is one of the 5 Gods of Excess (Ahuiateteo) and symbolizes the excess of lust and envy. The scavenging nature of the vulture represents the stripping off of deeply rooted lustful and envious impulses from our being. 5 Vulture is also associated with wisdom and longevity.”
5 Rabbit Cerveceria was created to bring the flavors of Central and South America to the Midwest. By our approximations they have done a great job. Not to mention, the beautiful, dark amber color in this ale makes for a perfect seasonal drink with a kick of spice.
