Gino’s East Story

Two Chicago cab drivers, Fred Bartoli and Sam T. Levine, had a dream — to create a new pizza that combined their favorite old-world recipes in a deep, golden pie-like crust. In 1966, they found a cozy old brownstone just off Michigan Avenue on Superior Street and opened the original Gino’s East. Soon, word spread and people began lining up. It was an experience loved by generations of Chicagoans, celebrities, and visitors from around the world. It ushered in a taste sensation — the Chicago-style deep dish pizza. And it made Chicago the “Pizza Capital of the World."

The South Barrington Gino's East brings its own flavor and unique back story to the Gino's Family. The Rose family, an Illinois meatpacking lineage, are well known for their Canadian bacon. It seemed a logical move for them to introduce their renowned Canadian bacon to the Gino's East Meaty legend. William Rose, wanted to exhibit the variety of ways his products could be used and so built up a place for a restaurant to capture this it finally opened in 1991. The Gino's East Barrington location itself is actually a farm a small scale airport and a historic part of South Barrington. To add a separate area for the Gino’s front, six 150 year old barns where moved. The inside of this Barrington location has century old cathedral style ceilings. Amenities like a rustic stone fireplace, outdoor dining options and 5 private dining halls set this location apart from the average Chicago Pizza joint.
